The Abilene Lancers were a Continental conference team introduced to the UFFL in 2014. Known for their resilience, the Lancers did not have much success. Despite this, they held strong historical connections with the management staff and players of the San Antonio Alamoes from the FAFF League, and were known for their intriguing stadium and solid coaching staff.

Late in the 2015 season, it was announced that the Lancers franchise would relocate in 2016, citing financial difficulties and low attendance, having lost much of its initial fanbase to the more successful Texan team in Dallas, the Texas Ramblers. On April 15, 2016, commissioner Walden announced that Abilene would relocate to Montreal, Quebec. Consequently, the team was rebranded as the Montreal Royal.
