Kieran Hamilton is a rookie kicker for the New York Titans.
Biography
Unlike most of the candidates for the 2018 UFFL Draft, football was not Kieran Hamilton's first sport. The former soccer standout has found his niche on the gridiron, though, and hopes to make it as a kicker in the league.
The second of four children, Kieran grew up in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, a small town and the county seat of Boundary County (the state's northernmost county, bordering Canada). His parents, who owned a grocery store in town, encouraged him to become involved in sports early, and he first latched onto soccer.
It wasn't until high school when Kieran would first play football competitively - at his small high school, many students played multiple sports, and the football team often relied on soccer players to fill the kicker position. There was a minor adjustment period, but it soon became apparent that Kieran was a natural, becoming the state's most accurate kicker by his junior year.
Given the small size and remoteness of Bonners Ferry, Kieran's college options (in either of his two sports) weren't exactly wide, but his performance at a football camp hosted by North Idaho State College (in Lewiston) the summer before his senior year secured him a scholarship. As the team's kicker for all four years of his time in college, he broke school records for total points scored, most field goals, field goal accuracy, and longest field goal (a 55-yard effort), despite kicking for largely mediocre squads. Kieran's accuracy (upwards of 85% in college) and range made him one of the best college kickers in the country, and he now hopes to take his skills to the UFFL.
Evaluation
3 stars. Wonderful accuracy. Good to great range, though accuracy starts to get a little wobbly over 50. Soccer star-turned-kicker is a story I’ve heard before, but Kieran is not a typical one. Had quite a bit of film for him from such a small school, but this cat’s the real deal. With a little more strength and effort, I could see Kieran hitting from 60 yards in his sleep.League is full of soccer-style kickers now, so he’ll need to work to differentiate himself from the pack.
