Marquise Rubenson is a rookie wide receiver for the Miami Tropics.
Biography
Marquise took an odd road to get to the UFFL. The cheetah was originally born in Corvallis, but his parents were forced to move to find work to support him and his younger brother. As cubs Marquise and his brother Peter would often play catch in the backyard with a baseball. It wasn't till he was 13 that his parents bought the two their first football. Despite their parents need for extra income Marquise took to playing football in High School in the hopes of one day joining the AAFL (Anthro American Football League). his younger brother stopped playing but would still work with Marquise to hone his catching skills.
Upon joining the varsity squad Marquise was already a versatile receiver that could catch it deep down field or up close on a slant rout Many in Medford won't forget the claw clutch to send his school to nationals where he caught the ball just by the hair tip of his stretched out claws. he eventually earned a scholarship to Gem state where he now holds the third highest number of receiving yards by a sophomore in the colleges existence.
Junior year he learned the AFFL folded and merged with other leagues to form the UFFL. not wanting to trust how stable it'd be, he opted to join the indoor league just up the road a ways with the Eugene Roses where he built a strong chemistry with the team to help them win a title and featured a play where a hotly contested hail Mary caused him to fall backwards after the ball bounced off his helmet and into his paws before he hit the ground in the end zone.
Sadly the good times Eugene were cut short as a year later the team merged with Portland and became the Portland Roses. Marquise was hoping to stick with the team that gave him a chance. He waited to see if the league would allow him and there QB Dominic to come over as a special exception, when the ruling came against the notion Dom left to play for a final year and Marquise worked on his catching skills to submit himself to the draft.
Evaluation
4 Stars. Learned and trained with many competent coaches, Naturally gifted at the position. Good paws, above average speed for his position (though a little underwhelming for a cheetah). I thought he was gonna come out after his sophomore year and would have been a top-3 pick for sure, but I do see him landing in the Lottery. Hopefully the brass in Portland can bring him home to energize the growing Roses fan base, as he’s got the ability to be a game-breaker.
