Travis Westmore is a punter for the Texas Ramblers.
Biography
Travis Westmore grew up in a military-friendly family; his father was a Sergeant in the USMC and his mother was in the USAF, and both of them heavily influenced his viewpoints about the military and especially about patriotism. Although his parents weren't dedicated sports fans, they supported Travis' decision to take the route to become a football player and not enlist in the military. Due to his 'light frame' in comparison to many football players and his lack of a decent throwing arm, Travis decided to be a punter and quickly excelled in the position.
At Moreno Valley High School, he averaged 38.5 yards punting and is notorious for kicking the ball to land within the opposing end's red zone at a consistent basis, no matter where on the field he would kick from, and a decent percentage of his punts end up as touchbacks. The kangaroo has a sharp eye and touch for punting the ball, and at Cal Furry Tech, he spent three of four years at the college ranking at the Top Ten Punters in the FCAA. However he can't be relied on as a passer during punt-fake plays, and is not much of a tackler against opposing punt receivers.
Interview
Some species are naturally better built to kick and punt than other species. How does your player's physicalities (hooved feet, short legs, heavy tails, etc.) affect their kicking ability?
He's a kangaroo and thus born with very strong legs, stronger than many other species.
Football players sign contracts with teams to get paid millions of dollars. When your player is signed to a team, are they going to care more about security (staying on a team longer) or money (earning the big $$$) in their contract offer?
Travis would care more about security. Due to his position as punter, he doesn't face as many tackling opportunities as many other players, and thus can stay healthier as the years go by (fewer concussions, injuries).
In some games, it comes down to the Kicker making a last-second field goal, or the Punter pinning the team deep in their side of the field. What does your player do to prepare for these stressful moments?
Travis would spent his time practicing his kicks constantly. He's focused and uses kicking drills to distract him from the pressure of the game situations.
What is your player doing in the off-season to improve their chances of being drafted higher?
Along with a group of friends, he would practice punting the ball on a public football field, using a mesh-bag full of footballs for him to practice with. He has a strict exercise regime to tone his body, but he is not a heavyweight or have a body-builder physique.
