Thorin Tatchee is a rookie free safety for the Fargo Axemen.

Biography

Thorin was a late child, born while his parents were already in their 40s. They were hippies (his father designed light shows for progressive rock bands) who had spent most of the 70s traveling the country in a tie-dyed van. So yes, he *is* named for the Hobbit character, despite being as tall as two dwarves stacked on top of each other. He played both basketball and football in high school, and was offered college scholarships to play both. He ended up choosing the football offer of Lake State University in his hometown of Minneapolis. There he played well as both safety and cornerback, playing in the Pig Ten championship twice (though losing both times) and catching a game-tying pick six in the Orange Bowl his senior year.

Evaluation

3 stars. Great ball hawk, with one of the highest verticals in the class. Will easily challenge receivers for possession. Tall for a FS, but that is a good thing for Thorin when challenging receivers for deep balls. Has great instincts and can read the QB very well; that pick-six in the bowl game was proof of that. Thorin’s versatility in the secondary could prove vital, but I see him being a late 2nd-rounder. Work to be done on the tackle game.
