Biography

Hendrix J. Blake (Reptile, Tyrannosaurus) was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to a single teen mother. Showing athletic talent at a young age, he attended Westview High in Kalamazoo, where he played as a three-year starter on the defensive line. As a senior, he recorded over 200 tackles and led his team to the state quarterfinals, following a 12-2 record and a berth in the State Championship as a junior. For his all-around athletic accomplishments, Blake was a finalist for the Detroit Tribune’s Athlete of the Year.

Blake said he felt most at home in Michigan, but struggled to make his college decision. Considered a four-star recruit, Blake took official visits to Chicago Bay, Arkansas Pred-Tech, and Bayland before committing to Bronson State. Blake tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on a punt coverage play, and missed the rest of his rookie season. Over the next two seasons, Blake totaled 96 tackles, 17.5 tackles for a loss, and 8.2 sacks total. Blake also earned praise as a special teams player, blocking 7 kicks during his 4-year career at Bronson State.

Despite occasional criticism for his aggressive playstyle, Blake is praised for his model sportsmanship, and known for a quiet, reserved nature off-field. Blake has two younger sisters, Emily and Madison, and a younger brother, Luis.
