Darnell Paige is a quarterback for the California Dons.

In the 2014 season, he started two games at quarterback for the Dons, sharing the starting quarterback position with rookie Joe Bowers. After the 2014 season, Paige saw more starting time, earning back the starting position in 2015 and leading the Dons to their first playoff berth.

History

Darnell had one year of pro football as a second-string quarterback for the Louisville Blues before it was swiped from his paws due to the closure of the FFL. In those two years between the closing of the FFL and the formation of the UFFL, Darnell played Canadian football for the Edmonton Warhawks, and tried coaching at the collegiate level as a Quarterbacks coach. While he enjoyed the work, and while Edmonton had a good season, he never felt happy about his misfortune and not having the chance to make it big on the American stage.

His misforunate would turn around in late 2013, when Darnell received a call from newly-hired Dons GM Patrick Blanton to try out for his team, as there was potential of reforming an American football program. Although Darnell was hesitant, he came down and made his case - putting in some reps, and showing off his arms. Immediately thereafter, he was asked to sign and play for the team as starting Quarterback. Finally, this would be Darnell's big chance. He was surprised he got the offer, but Blanton seemed happy and he knew this was the beginning of something huge. The Dons had been a historic franchise.

And then, disaster struck. The Dons drafted rookie Joe Bowers. Already, the coaches were looking to replace him. He was still the starter - he was reassured of this - but how long would that last? Joe was the bigger guy; he was getting A LOT of media attention, and - worst of all - all the players loved him. It was only a matter of time before the fans and the organization would put him on the field.

As it turned out, Darnell got a minor concussion after Week 1 and was sidelined for Week 2. Bewildered, Joe took his place and led the team to a decisive win, only worsening his case. Oddly enough, Joe would suffer a concussion at the end of that game (presumably hitting himself in the head with the game-winning football), and Darnell was back in the line-up for Week 3, grabbing another win for the team.

But now, Darnell felt the pressure. Whichever quarterback lost first would likely lose the chance to be starting quarterback. What was he to do? And would he ever get the respect and attention he truly wanted?
