Oliver Smithson is a running back in the UFFL.

Biography

Oliver Smithson is the son of former UFFL running back Wendell Smithson, who enjoyed a long and prosperous career with three teams.  It became quite apparent from his first days playing Pup Warner football that "Ollie" inherited his father's talent, and after settling down when his final game with the Easton Golden Eagles was finished, Wendell could focus on his two sons to nurture their budding talents.  (His younger brother Connor is a safety at Otter State)

After an outstanding prep career, Ollie followed in his father's pawsteps and took his talents to Otter State, where he became the first true freshman to start at tailback for the Otters since...his father in 1987.  He would lead the nation in yards per carry in the 2013 despite suffering a bruised tail that kept him out of two games, and in 2014, he would lead the nation in total rushing (2,267 yards) and tied for the national lead in touchdowns (21) while leading the Otters to their first top-10 ranking in school history.  Despite his family's pleas, Ollie decided to forego his senior year and declare for the UFFL draft, though he has vowed to complete his degree in political science.

Interview

Coaches don't like backs who fumble in the UFFL. What does your back do to help avoid fumbling?

He makes sure to keep both paws around the ball when charging through the line.  When in the open field, he tries to keep the ball in his outer arms; this allows him to apply stiff arms to ward off tacklers as well.

Football players sign contracts with teams to get paid millions of dollars. When your player is signed to a team, are they going to care more about security (staying on a team longer) or money (earning the big $$$) in their contract offer?

He values loyalty over money, but if he feels like he isn't being valued enough by his current team, he isn't afraid to test the waters to see if someone else will give him the credit he feels is due.

If you asked your RB, "What do you do in your free time?" how would they respond?

"Usually I just hang out in my dorm room and play games on my Xbox, but I do like to hit the gym when I can.  And on Friday nights in the offseason, I like to go to the clubs with some friends and cut loose on the dance floor!  Hey, it's the otter thing to do..."

What is your player doing in the off-season to improve their chances of being drafted higher?

Right now, Ollie is still working out with the team at Otter State, though he has performed in "pro days" where scouts have evaluated him in an intimate setting.
