Biography
The Montreal Royal football team was born from a single idea and a commitment for a passion for football. Prior of the return of the UFFL in 2015, football in Canada never had a professional foothold in the country, other then the excellence of the CFIS football program, which may pale in comparison to the strong FCAA program in the states.
Yet, with the emerge of many UFFL stars grown in Canada and especially in Quebec, led by the shining star Jean-Étienne Tremblay of the Chicago Outlaws and Mylène Jean of the California Dons, some well-known figureheads of college football in the province of Québec got together in building a plan for perhaps bringing a UFFL franchise to La belle province. Enter Simon Coutu, owner of the main brand of pharmacies in the province and one of the richest entrepreneurs in Canada. An avid football fan and prominent donator in community college football, he decided to take the lead in preparing a bid to bring football to Montreal.
The UFFL Montreal project was born, with the recent success the province had with visibility in professional sports. Many private and public investors came forth to back the project, as well in renovating the Chomedey Maisoneuve stadium used by UCF in downtown Montreal. Hot on the heels of their UCF Duvanier Cup win, and with fans backing the project more than ever, Mr. Coutu's bid was accepted as the official location for the Lancers franchise.
